High-Performance Grafting Enhancer for Dramatic Adhesion Improvement and Curing Time Reduction

Novel Small-Molecule Agents Realizing Enhanced Tissue Adhesion and Substantial Seedling Production Cost Reduction via Selective Cell Wall Remodeling Without Hormone-like Effects.

Advantages

- High Specificity and Safety: Selectively promotes the grafting adhesion process without inducing undesired physiological side effects or redundant gene expression.
- Broad Crop Applicability: Significantly improves adhesion failure across diverse plant species, including graft-resistant crops such as legumes.
- Marked Improvement in Production Efficiency: Strengthens cut-surface adhesion, shortening the curing period, boosting facility turnover, and reducing costs.
- Superior Operability and Low Cost: Applicable via local treatment or co-application with fungicides; easily synthesized and prepared due to its small-molecule structure.

Current Stage and Key Data

Hit selection completed from a chemical library; adhesion enhancement and growth efficacy validated in multiple plant families.
- Targeted Selection from ~30,000 Compounds: Identified key compounds showing significant grafting adhesion promotion from a screen of 30,368 compounds.
- Remarkably High Selectivity: Alters only a few to dozen genes, acting with high specificity compared to conventional hormones (~3,200 DEGs).
- Proven Efficacy in Multiple Crops: Demonstrated improved adhesion strength, scion elongation, callus expansion, and root/stem growth in legumes and other crops.

Partnaring Model

Patent licensing agreement or joint research under a CDA for in-house evaluation and validation.
- Potential partners: Agrochemical manufacturers, large-scale plug/grafted seedling producers, and specialized fruit tree/crop nurseries.

Background

Accelerating climate change has heightened the importance of grafting as a rapid adaptation tool for superior crop varieties. However, seedling production is constrained by the capacity and duration of curing rooms, while graft incompatibility and low success rates drive up costs. Conventional plant hormone treatments often induce unwanted systemic physiological responses. This technology avoids excessive physiological side effects while selectively enhancing junction adhesion, contributing to shorter curing periods and reduced waste loss.
